If you are looking for another great program that provides experience and insight into the world of medicine look into the LEAP administration. Leap is an excellent program that focuses on professional development, leadership, equality, and preparation for occupations in medicine. There are opportunities for mentor/mentee pair ups, as well as monthly professional development events and GBM’s! This is an amazing organization to join if you are looking to learn more about what it means to work in healthcare, and the initiative that it takes.

During my time in the Leap administration, I forged collaborative partnerships with my mentor. This allowed me to freely ask questions and receive emotional and academic support from someone who has been through a similar experience. My LEAP mentor, having been successful in most of her classes, can give me first-hand advice on how to study and prepare for the incoming workload. My mentor has also helped me to become more organized, and time efficient. Giving me tips on how to balance academic life with rest and recuperation. Within LEAP I have also actively participated in professional development and networking events that have allowed to acquire essential skills to use in the workplace. The skills I have acquired include how to network and find available job and research opportunities, how to be successful when working in a team, and how to properly dress for and respond in an interview. Through LEAP I am also able to attend key business meetings and receive insight from multiple speaker panels featuring doctors from diverse specialties which have helped me to narrow down my interests in medicine and plan my future. I would recommend LEAP to anyone looking for more hands-on guidance for entering the medical field, as it is a great way to prepare for the rigorous workload and professional skills needed to be successful.
